A note of indulgence and originality in a cruel world, all our footwear is made in France.
During a period in which many companies are relocating, Stéphane GONTARD
has refused to give in to profitability alarmists. By taking on the “made in
France” challenge, this is probably one of the last footwear manufacturers to
make all their products in France
The GONTARD brand was created in LYON in 1835, from which it takes its logo
in the form of the head of a lion, now given a new look. In the 1970s-80s, it
lived its hour of glory from its men’s footwear collection. The quality of their
manufacture became a reference for top-of-the-range men’s footwear.
Unfortunately, in the early 1990s, the company, then located in Avenières
(Isère) experienced some difficulties and was closed down in 1993.
In 1994, the brand was bought by Manufacture Gorronnaise de Chaussures,
already specializing in luxury footwear and managed by the two brothers,
Franck and Norbert LAFONTAINE. The new managers adopted a strategy that
repositioned the brand. Progressively the initial target of “the mature and
classic man” became younger and aimed at men and women, placing
emphasis on charm, sensuality, and the dream of lightness in the collections.
Focusing on the urban art of living, trends, being chic and relaxed, they like
practical footwear. Their time is counted, precious, and they like to spend on
pleasure.
Every season, the collections use new materials or original accessories,
sometimes redirecting their initial vocation. Raw and sensual materials,
patent, matt or shiny, brushed calfskin or imitation crocodile; it is important to
vary the pleasure. Styles and multiple effects, vintage rock-star style to the
casual Zen and unconventional, there is something to bring out the best of
your different personalities. Colours, scraped concrete, brushed metal, burnt
copper, harmonize beautifully with skins that are sometimes even exotic, such
as camel, kid, or reptiles.

1835 - Création de la marque Stéphane Gontard à Lyon.
1970-1980 - Les collections de chaussures homme créent la notoriété de la marque.
1994 - Rachat de la marque Sous la direction des frères Lafontaine, la marque Stéphane Gontard créée sa collection femme.
Aujourd'hui - Le fabricant français poursuit une politique de croissance 100 % hexagonale*, au rythme d'une à deux ouvertures de magasin chaque année et à travers plus de 300 boutiques partenaires.
